Kitchen with Lightings Installed — Midlothian, VA — Family Electric

Our bodies are made to naturally rise and sleep with the pattern of the sun, but many people find themselves awake in the middle of the night or early morning. Whether it's work, school, or a personal preference, you may find yourself awake in the darkness. Instead of showering your house in bright lights, you have a number of lighting options to get you through the night.

Consider options for both the interior and exterior of your home. With complete control of your lighting, you can set and choose your ideal lighting for all hours of the day.

Toe-Kick Lighting

In the night, you may not want a house full of bright lights, but you still want to navigate your way around rooms like the kitchen and bathroom. One of the best options for the spaces is toe-kick lighting. The LED lights go directly underneath the edges that hang out of kitchen cabinets, counters, or islands.

The toe-kick lighting provides a nice glow in dark rooms and helps prevent you from stubbing your toe. The LED lights can be turned on in multiple ways. You could have a separate light switch that controls the lighting, rely on motion sensors to automatically turn the lights on, or use a timer so the lights turn on at night and shut off during the day.

The options all depend on your personal preference. You also have the option to choose the color tone of the lighting. White, yellow, and blue are common options, but LED lights come in a wide range of colors to select from.

Motion Lights

The motion features in toe-kick isn't the only way to add motion lighting to your home. At night, motion lights will prevent you from fumbling around and feeling for a light switch. Add motion lights in any room of the home so the light turns on when you step in it.

For example, if you add motion lights inside your bathroom when you walk in, you will have instant illumination. The motion lights may feature automatic shut-off timers. The timers are essential for saving energy and will prevent lights from staying on all night in your home.

Light Dimmer Switches

If you want overhead lights with more control, then hire an electrician to install light dimmer switches. The switches typically move up and down to change the brightness of the lights. You can leave a low dim with just enough light to let you see or increase the brightness if you are cooking or reading a book.

The main goal is to not disturb others with the bright lights in the home. Dimmer switches work with all kinds of light fixtures. In some cases, an electrician may need to install special bulbs that are made to work with dimmers. Wiring is also done to install the dimmer switch along with traditional switches so you have extra options for the lights.

Flood Lights

Going outside your home at night can create a lot of anxiety and fear. The darkness alone is enough to spook someone, but the last thing you want to do is have a run-in with a nocturnal creature like a skunk or raccoon. With the installation of flood lights you can easily see outdoors and scare away any creatures.

Just like the lights on the inside, flood lights can feature motion sensors to automatically go off if something moves around your driveway. Along with the driveway lights, you may consider flood light installations on the front and back entrances of the home for extra illumination and an increase in safety.
